Overview

THIS POSTING WILL BE USED TO FILL MULTIPLE POSITIONS

The TeleSANE consultant will aid spoke site providers in providing timely, non-judgmental, trauma-informed care to the sexual assault victims.  The guidance by the TeleSANE will include a forensic exam, prophylaxis for pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, photographic documentation, referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up, support, post consult follow up calls, and participation in legal proceedings.  The TeleSANE is expected to follow protocols established by the Program Director and/or management of the Digital Health Sexual Assault Assessment Program. The TeleSANE may participate in providing spoke site educational opportunities related to sexual assault care topics.

Responsibilities

  • Aid spoke site nurse in recognizing injuries that need further medical attention related to sexual assault.
  • Aid in coordination of care such as local advocacy needs and resources that can assist the sexual assault victim
  • Provide guidance to spoke site provider on SANE documentation
  • Provide guidance on how to perform a complete physical and forensic evidence collection examination including Head-to-Toe assessment for trauma, detailed genital examination, forensic specimen collection and documentation, including photography, and assess for mandatory reporting status, reporting when appropriate.
  • Provide guidance to the spoke site provider on how to document detailed injuries accurately with support of photographic evidence.
  • Aid in guidance on how to maintain chain of custody for each sexual assault exam and adhere to evidence protocols
  • Maintain professional standards that do not create conflict of interests with employment or patient care, including patient and medical record confidentiality
  • Provide guidance on appropriate prophylactic medications per program protocols
  • Provide testimony as fact witness to any/all cases related to guidance that was provided to a spoke site in the care of a sexual assault victim.
  • Complete the initial and on-going educational requirements as identified by the TeleSANE Program
  • Debrief as needed to maintain emotional and physical wellness as advised by TeleSANE program
  • Maintain open communication with TeleSANE Program director and core team on regular basis.
  • Share individual expertise with the other members of TeleSANE when requested
  • Maintain competency by maintaining active performance of cases with no lapse of greater than six months
  • Participate in quality assurance chart and photograph review process as determined by the TeleSANE program
  • Adhere to all administrative, clinical, and employment policies and procedures on file with the Digital Health Sexual Assault Assessment Program.
  • Apply for SANE-A testing within 18 months from hire date if not nationally certified prior to hire date with the International Association of Forensic Nursing.
  • Maintain SANE-A credentials once awarded
  • Have completed an approved 40 hour Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner didactic
  • Commit to cover minimum number of shifts, holiday coverage, and other scheduling requirements as determined by the Digital Health Sexual Assault Assessment Program.

  • Participate in professional development as determined by the Digital Health Sexual Assault Assessment Program, including staff meetings, conferences, and in-services.
  • Attend Webinars as scheduled by program director related to TeleSANE

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Associates of Nursing

    evidence collection, prophylaxis treatment for STI, therapeutic communications. Completed 40 hours Sexual Assault Nurse Examination didactic
    Two years as a registered nurse and with two years’ experience caring for victims of sexual assault.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    BSN
    Licenses, certificates, or registration Sexual Assault Nursing Examiner

    Registered Nurse or an advanced practiced nurse practitioner
